Medicare Agent & Health Insurance Broker in Alexandria, KY

In a lot of Alexandria households, one spouse is turning 65 while the other is still a few years away, or someone retired early and needs coverage until Medicare starts. That's a common situation in a community like this. Alexandria's median age is under 40, more than 9 in 10 homes are owner-occupied, and many residents work across the river in Cincinnati until they retire. Coverage decisions here usually involve the whole household.

MedMyWay handles all of it. Jeff and Suzanne Janosick are independent agents, licensed in both Kentucky and Ohio, who help Alexandria families with individual health insurance before 65 and Medicare after. Our office is in Fort Thomas, about 20 minutes up US-27, and our guidance is free.

Campbell County Medicare at a Glance

Alexandria is one of Campbell County's two county seats, and it shares the county's Medicare market:

19,320 Medicare beneficiaries in Campbell County (2025)

55.2% enrolled in Medicare Advantage, just above the Kentucky average of 54.4%

45 Medicare Advantage plans available for 2026, 31 of them with a $0 monthly premium

40% of plans rated 4 stars or higher by CMS

Yearly out-of-pocket maximums from $2,875 to $9,250, depending on the plan

The most-enrolled plans in the county are Humana Gold Plus (HMO) with about 1,400 members, Anthem Medicare Advantage (HMO-POS) with about 1,100, and Humana Community (HMO) with about 600. Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Wellcare, Devoted, and HealthSpring also offer plans here.

Kentucky Address, Cincinnati Doctors

Many Alexandria residents live in Kentucky but get much of their care in Ohio. They may have built relationships with doctors at The Christ Hospital, TriHealth, or UC Health during their working years, while also using St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Northern Kentucky's main system with five hospitals and 500+ St. Elizabeth Physicians providers.

That split is where Medicare plans most often fall short. Your plan is based on where you live, not where your doctors are. So the question isn't whether a plan is good. It's whether the plan covers your St. Elizabeth primary care doctor and your Christ Hospital cardiologist at in-network rates.

Here's how the options compare:

Strict HMOs may only cover Northern Kentucky providers, or may require referrals and prior authorization for Ohio specialists.

HMO-POS and PPO plans usually allow some care outside the network, though often at higher copays.

Original Medicare plus a Medigap plan has no network at all. Any provider in either state who accepts Medicare is covered the same way.

Because we're licensed in both states and work with these networks every day, we check every doctor on your list against every plan before you enroll.

Medigap for Alexandria Residents

If your care crosses state lines, Medigap is usually the simplest choice: no networks, no referrals, and predictable costs.

Plan G pays everything Original Medicare doesn't, except the $283 Part B deductible (2026). Plan N has a lower premium in exchange for small copays: up to $20 for some office visits and $50 for some ER visits.

Before 65: Health Insurance for Alexandria Families

Retiring at 60, self-employed, or between jobs? We help Alexandria individuals and families find coverage until Medicare starts:

Kynect Marketplace plans. Kentucky's state exchange. Plans cover pre-existing conditions, and income-based tax credits can lower premiums significantly, especially for early retirees whose income drops after they stop working.

Non-Marketplace PPO plans. Larger networks and no referrals, a good fit if you don't qualify for subsidies or want access to Ohio providers.

Short-term plans (UnitedHealthcare, Allstate). Temporary coverage for short gaps. They don't cover pre-existing conditions, so we'll tell you honestly when they make sense and when they don't.

When the time comes, we help you move from your individual plan to Medicare without a gap in coverage.

When One Spouse Turns 65 First

This is one of the most common situations we help with in Alexandria, and timing matters:

Three months before the first spouse turns 65: Plan the Medicare enrollment, and decide what happens to the other spouse's coverage.

If the household was on an employer plan: Find out whether the younger spouse can stay on it, or whether they need a Kynect or private plan.

The Medigap window: The spouse turning 65 has a six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, starting the month their Part B begins, when they can't be turned down for health reasons.

Repeat when the second spouse turns 65. Each spouse has their own enrollment periods and their own policy. Some carriers offer household discounts when both of you have their plans.

Serving NKY & Beyond

Serving Alexandria and Southern Campbell County

We work with clients throughout Alexandria and nearby communities, including Cold Spring, Highland Heights, Grants Lick, Camp Springs, Melbourne, Silver Grove, and Claryville. We can also meet with Alexandria residents at our Fort Thomas office, or by phone or video. Most clients never need to make the drive.

I'm retiring at 62. How do I get coverage until Medicare?

Most early retirees use a Kynect Marketplace plan. Your subsidy is based on your income for the year, so a drop in income after retirement often means a much lower premium. We'll estimate your tax credit and compare plans before your employer coverage ends.

Yes, but it depends on the plan. Some Campbell County Medicare Advantage plans include Ohio providers in their networks, and others don't. Original Medicare with a Medigap plan covers any provider in either state who accepts Medicare. We verify each of your doctors before recommending anything.

That depends on what you have now. If you're both on an employer plan, you may be able to stay on it. If not, you'll likely need a Kynect or private plan until you turn 65. We'll plan both timelines together so neither of you has a gap.

Possibly. If your income from two years earlier was above certain limits, Medicare adds a surcharge to your Part B and Part D premiums. Retirement often lowers your income, and you can ask Social Security to recalculate the surcharge based on that change. We'll point you to the right form.

Absolutely. Many of our Alexandria clients started by bringing in a parent's Medicare review, and we help with every stage of coverage.

Nothing. Insurance carriers pay us directly, and your premium is the same whether you use us or enroll on your own.
